| How do
I link my domain name to my hosting server?
To "link" your domain name to your
hosting server you need to change the nameservers on your
domain name to point to the server.
To do this, most domain name
providers have a control panel where you can log in and change
this information.
A nameserver looks like this: ns1.somesite.com
& ns2.somesite.com - if you look in your welcome email
you will see the 2 nameservers for you server. Log into your
domain name providers control panel and add
/ edit the nameservers to those in your welcome email.
Once you have changed the nameservers, your
site won't be live immediately because ISP's (internet service
providers) around the world, such as AOL etc, need to update
their nameserver databases. Once you change your nameservers
it normally takes around 24/72 hours for your domain name
to propagate (point to your website).
Tip: Whilst you are waiting for your domain
name to propagate, why not use the temp link format
found in your welcome email so you can view your website before
the domain name is working.
